A Bit About Me
Originally from Missouri (Hello fellow Midwest transplants!), I moved to Seattle in 2020 to begin my graduate studies in Couples and Family Therapy at Seattle University. I studied Public Health as an undergraduate, which gave me a strong foundation in viewing people within the context of the systems they are a part of and taking a bio-psycho-social-spiritual framework to the problems we experience. Before becoming a therapist, I dabbled in nonprofit work and teaching English abroad, but quickly realized I wanted to work one-on-one with others focusing on their interior lives and relational landscapes to support their wellbeing.
I decided to become a therapist after experiencing the transformative power of sitting in the client chair myself (and still do!). At different points in my life, I sought therapy for support integrating my own experiences of trauma, anxiety and depression, and relational wounds and discovered the power of being deeply seen, heard, and understood by a therapist. I became fascinated with the way we exist and heal in relationships and the neurobiology of trauma and the nervous system. Therapy has been a place to experience a safe container and support my becoming.
My own journey has also included experiences with therapists that weren't a good fit, and those moments were just as influential in shaping the therapist I strive to be. They taught me the importance of collaboration, humility, and respecting the inherent power and responsibility that comes with this role. I believe therapy is something we do together—not something that is done to a client. I value approaching each person with curiosity rather than certainty, honoring your expertise in your own life, and being willing to say, "I don't know," when something calls for more learning or a different perspective.
To me, therapy is truly sacred work, and it is an honor to be invited in to walk alongside each of my clients. I continue to be deeply impacted by the courage, resilience, and humanity of every client I have the honor to work with.
I believe some clients appreciate and feel safer if they know some of the identities their therapist holds. I am White, heterosexual, cis-gender, able-bodied, a deconstructed/reconstructing religious person, an only child (with a blended family), and an early 30's millennial.
Outside of therapy I enjoy long walks and day hikes. Mount Rainier in the summer is my happy place! I love to scope out local bakeries for the best pastries and downing fresh oysters. I enjoy listening to podcasts and am cultivating my interest in reading poetry. My ideal day off includes a mixture of the above plus checking out an art exhibit or being creative. I am currently dog-less and will stop to pet as many dogs as I can :)
